  • O'Driscoll to miss just a month

Brian O'Driscoll is tackled by Wales' Stephen Jones during last weekend's Six Nations match at Croke Park. The Irish captain damaged a hamstring in a later incident and the injury will keep him out of this weekend's final game with England. Photograph: Alan Betson. RUGBY: IT WAS confirmed yesterday that Brian O'Driscoll will miss the rest of the Six Nations Championship, although his hamstring injury is not as severe as previously thought. There is just one match remaining against England in Twickenham on Saturday. p
  • McNamara can strike up winning festival tune

RACING: After months of hype and pondering, there won't be many at Cheltenham today with a clearer idea of what they have to do than Andrew McNamara when the field faces the tape before the Smurfit Kappa Champion Hurdle. Any exceptions will probably be those who already believe Sizing Europe is the champion-elect. p

  • Generous St Patrick's sneak draw

St Patrick's Ath ... 3 Glentoran ... 3: HAVING HAD to come from behind to beat Sligo on Friday, it seems they're intent on making life hard on themselves up at Inchicore this season. Last night it took two very late goals by the home side this time just to secure a share of the spoils. p

  • Not bowled over by prospect of covering Derry game

On soccer: The problem dates back to the early, rather grim days of my freelance career when rugby featured on the wide-ranging rota of sports I covered in order to make ends meet. On a particularly awful Saturday afternoon, I was packed off to the Bowl by the Sunday Press to watch UCD play Sligo in a fairly meaningless (to me at least) All Ireland League game, writes EMMET MALONE p

  • Ireland in desperate need of new direction

THE BOTTOM line on Saturday is that fortune favoured the brave, and by rights it should have done so even more handsomely. The ultimate reward should come for Wales next Saturday with a possible second Grand Slam in four years or, at the very least barring a 20-point French win, another title. Meantime, Ireland are left celebrating their one Slam of 60 years ago and without a title for 25 years. p

  • De Bromhead's Sizing Europe ticks all the right boxes

CHELTENHAM:  GUEST TIPSTER - DAY ONE PREVIEW: The biggest factor for the first couple of days of the festival at least will be the ground and the way conditions look like turning up at the moment it all looks to be in Sizing Europe's favour in the Champion Hurdle, writes TOM TAAFFE p

  • Blue Bajan looks the value bet in the Supreme Novices'

CHELTENHAM: ESTIMATES OF up to €100 million floating around various betting markets in Ireland during the next four days only emphasise the need for a good start to Cheltenham 2008 and the number one horse in race one, Blue Bajan, could be the value bet to provide just that. p
