October 17th, 2007 Ireland draw with Cyprus 1-1 at Croke Park.
October 19th Denis O'Brien makes contact with the FAI about providing support in anticipation of a change in manager.
October 23rd Steve Staunton is sacked after a meeting of the association's board.
October 24th On this day or later - but before the end of the month - John Delaney gets back to O'Brien.
November 1st The board meet to consider how to approach the recruitment of a new manager. The members are told of an approach from O'Brien, and agree the matter should be investigated.
November 13th The board meet again. John Delaney informs members that he has met Denis O'Brien, and outlines the businessman's offer to pay half the cost of the new management team.
