Limerick win comfortably

Sigerson Cup: University of Limerick 2-10, St Mary's Belfast 0-6 A goal at either end of the first half ensured a smooth passage for a powerful UL outfit to the next round at sunny DCU yesterday.

Barry McGoldrick got the first Belfast score after eight minutes but by then UL had scored 1-3, Carthach Keane getting the goal on two minutes from Alan O'Sullivan's pass.

Fiachra Lynch added three points from frees and David Moran's coolly converted penalty on the stroke of half-time after a foul on Gary Brennan virtually settled the issue, UL leading by 2-6 to 0-2 at the break.

St Mary's notched points courtesy of Paul Carvil, Conor McGourty (two) and Paul Keenan to reduce the deficit to seven but UL finished strongly with three points.
