Tyrrellspass persevere

Westmeath SFC Final/ Tyrrellspass 1-10 Mullingar Shamrocks 2-4 : Tyrrellspass retained their crown at Cusack Park, Mullingar, yesterday with a late recovery.

The first half was scrappy, the losers employing seven defenders in an effort to defuse the threat of intercounty stars Denis Glennon and Martin Flanagan. With fellow Westmeath player Donal O'Donoghue shining at midfield for Mullingar Shamrocks, his team trailed by only 0-2 to 0-5 at the break.

Mullingar's Cian O'Leary fisted two goals in the 39th and 45th minutes for a 2-3 to 0-5 lead. However, Tyrrellspass knocked over two points, before substitute Keith Scally struck for a goal in the 57th minute. Scores from Glennon and Flanagan sealed victory.
