    • Reassurance for home owners

      CENTRAL BANK governor John Hurley has offered home buyers and home owners some much needed reassurance by stating that domestic house prices are returning to realistic levels. In saying so, he has rejected claims in a recent International Monetary Fund (IMF) report that Irish house prices may still be significantly overvalued: more than 30 per cent higher than market fundamentals can justify. p

      IN A SIGNIFICANT intervention, International Olympic Committee president Jacque Rogge said yesterday in Beijing: "I'm very concerned with the international situation and what's happening in Tibet. The torch relay has been targeted. The International Olympic Committee has expressed its serious concern and calls for a rapid peaceful resolution in Tibet". He spoke as the Olympic flame was briefly extinguished during violent protests in Paris - which he also deplored. p
