emissionsThe main message from the latest United Nations report on
climate change is that the worst effects of global warming can be
avoided if remedial action is taken soon, writes
Frank McDonald, Environment Editor, in BangkokThere is no time to lose, the scientists say. The volume of
greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere went up by 70 per cent
between 1970 and 2004 - 24 per cent since 1990 alone and will
continue to grow still further by as much as 90 per cent by 2030
unless urgent steps are taken to reduce these damaging
emissions.
