John Wilson, who has died aged 84, was a former
tánaiste and government minister who regularly topped the poll
during almost 20 years as TD for Cavan-Monaghan. A classics
scholar, teacher and accomplished public speaker, with a knowledge
of several languages, including Irish, Greek, Latin, Spanish and
French, he was tipped at one time to be a future president or a
candidate in any election for that office. p

Rodney Beresford Dockrell, who has died aged 85, came from a Dublin family well known for important contributions to the commercial life of the city. p

Sister Stella Fitzpatrick, who has died aged 90, was a geography teacher whose outstanding contribution to Irish education was officially recognised when in 2002 the degree of Doctor of Literature honoris causa was conferred on her by the National University of Ireland, Maynooth. p
