He may come to be included in the same category of pre-eminent figures as Adam Smith, Ricardo, Marx and John Maynard Keynes.When he began his main work, while professor at Chicago University in the 1950s and 1960s, Keynesian orthodoxy dominated almost all academic macro-economics and much of public policy in this field.
