Signs seek to end confusion at roundabout

The National Roads Authority has been accused of many things, most notably inadequate signposting.

But yesterday between Newlands Cross and the Red Cow roundabout, a distance of about one kilometre, I counted at least six separate signs warning motorists to get in lane.

Two electronic flashing signs, two roadside signs, the sign over the gantry at the Monastery Road junction and another sign just at the approach to the roundabout all direct traffic to the correct lane - the two inside lanes for the M50, the two outside lanes for the city centre.

There were road markings too showing the way for the M50 and the city centre.

Once on the road for the city centre though, the road markings still erroneously say M50 South, which seems to have been an oversight, though the new filtering system means that once you take the road for the city, you cannot get off it towards the M50.
