are still arriving by the bagload in the Central Bank to be
exchanged for euros.The pound went out of official circulation at midnight on this
day in 2002, six weeks after the largely trouble- free introduction
of the euro. However, the bank undertook to continue changing the
old currency for euros indefinitely.
