- Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and the Health Minister Mary Harney ruled
out any pay increase for 40,000 nurses on the first day of their
industrial action over improved pay and conditions yesterday.
- The pace of political developments in Northern Ireland continued
to quicken yesterday with the four main party leaders signing up to
a "gentlemen's agreement" by announcing the ministerial posts they
will take up on May 8th.
- Aer Lingus is to charge passengers up to €15 per flight
for the privilege of choosing where they can sit on its
aircraft.
