  • Two killed as stolen car crashes in Louth

    The Audi A4 and the Renault Megane in which two people, a 64-year-old man and a 17-year-old youth, died at Annaloughan, Co Louth, yesterday. A teenage girl is critical in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda. Gardaí in Co Louth are appealing for witnesses to a crash in which two people were killed, one of whom was a passenger in a stolen car, and in which a teenage girl was seriously injured. p

    Judges in the majority of family law cases involving children do not consult the children and many do not wish to, a conference was told at the weekend. p
  • Man (23) injured in Baldoyle shooting

    Gardaí examine the scene of a shooting which took place on Warren House Road, Baldoyle, Dublin, early yesterday morning. The injured man was taken to Beaumont Hospital where his injuries were described as not life-threatening. Gardaí at Howth in north Dublin are investigating a shooting incident in which a 23-year-old man was injured yesterday morning. p
  • Permission refused for Archbishop Romero Mass

    For the first time in 27 years permission was refused for a Dublin Mass at the weekend in memory of the late Archbishop Oscar Romero, murdered in San Salvador on March 24th, 1980, by security forces because of his outspokenness on behalf of the poor in El Salvador. p
  • Creaking water supply system set for €118m overhaul

    A €118 million project to repair and replace over 280km (174 miles) of leaky water pipes in the Dublin region, saving 20 million litres of water per day, is to get under way this summer. p

  • Burren's rare plants at risk from scrub - study

The Heritage Council has called for the urgent introduction of a national landscape management plan following a report that concludes that the Burren in Co Clare is seriously under threat from scrub overgrowth, which is destroying the habitats of rare flowers and plants. p
  • INTO buoyed by Ahern's pledge on class sizes

    The INTO claimed major success for its campaign on class size yesterday after the Taoiseach said at least 4,000 more primary schoolteachers would be provided. p
