Fri 02 Feb 2002Sharon to set up 'buffer zones'The Israeli Prime Minister, Mr Ariel Sharon, announced in an address to the nation last night that he had decided to set up "buffer zones" between Israel and the West Bank to create what he called "security separation" between the two sides, in an effort to stem Palestinian attacks.Mr Sharon, who answered reporters' questions after his address, said he was ready to enter into serious negotiations with the Palestinians, but only after "the terror stops completely." He spoke on a day in which eight Palestinians were killed in another wave of Israeli air and ground strikes on Palestinian Authority targets in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, which killed eight people.
