Woman found dead in Athlone house

A post mortem on the body of a woman found in a house in Athlone has concluded this evening, according to the Garda.

The discovery was made shortly after 10am this morning at a house in Valley Court in the town.

Gardai preserved the scene for technical examination and the State pathologist carried out a preliminary investigation.

In a statement released tonight the Garda Press Office said the post mortem had been conducted but the cause of death could not be established.

"There are a number of injuries to the body which may or may not have contributed to the death," the statement added.

The woman in her 40s has not been officially named.
