Man rescued in Dún Laoghaire harbour

A garda helped to rescue a man from Dún Laoghaire harbour last night.

Gardaí were called after a man apparently fell into the water in front of the boathouse at the East Pier at around 10.10pm.

Lifebuoys were thrown to the man, but he was unable to reach them and was losing consciousness.

A garda was lowered into the sea with a lifebuoy and stayed with the man until the RNLI lifeboat arrived 15 minutes later.

The injured man (44) was taken to St Vincent’s hospital.
