Men lifted to safety off Clare coast

Three men have been airlifted to safety by the Coastguard helicopter after they became trapped by a rising tide off Co Clare.

A spokesman for Valentia Coastguard said the men were were caught out by the tide when they walked out to an area between Seafield and Mutton Island.

"They went walking and got caught out [by the tide]," the spokesman said.

The three were unable to get back to shore when the tide came in and had to be rescued by the Shannon-based helicopter.

The spokesman said the men were taken to Quilty where the local Kilkee coastguard looked after them. No medical attention was required.
