17:27 The US State Department admitted today the passport files of presidential candidates Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and John McCain were accessed by three contract workers. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice called Mr Obama to apologise for the unauthorized access to his computerized passport file by the workers, two of whom were fired. A State Department spokesman said she "had expressed the same sentiment" to Mrs Clinton and planned to speak to Mr McCain.

15:39 Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has appealed to motorists to drive with care over the Easter Holiday. In a statement this morning, Mr Ahern advised drivers not to drink and drive and to reduce their speed. Significant extra Garda resources are being deployed this weekend in an attempt to reduce the number of fatal crashes. According to the Road Safety Authority, 22 people died in crashes over the Easter period in the last five years. Another 52 people were seriously injured.
