Find your ancestorsA Co Clare man was today jailed for two-and-a-half years for his role in the rape of a young boy.
Graham Haugh, (22), with addresses at Drumina, Dysart, Ennis, and Hector Street, Kilrush, was extradited last August from England where he had joined the British army under a false name.
He had failed to appear for sentence in November 2005.
Haugh was found guilty by a jury on March 31st, 2004, following a 10-day trial of sexually assaulting the boy three years earlier.
Haugh had threatened to set his dog on the 11-year-old boy unless he came into his house. Haugh then held the boy down while another youth raped him.
At Dublin Circuit Criminal Court today, Judge Yvonne Murphy said she was originally intending to allow Haugh to rehabilitate in the community. However, as he had broken the court's order, she had no choice but to give a custodial sentence.
