Microsoft claims server cuts CO2

Microsoft today claimed its new Windows Server 2008 has the potential to dramatically cut CO2 emissions.

The company said that through increased efficiency and a new technology called virtualisation, companies could reduce the number of computer servers they use by having multiple servers in one server box.

Bill O'Brien, business manager with Microsoft Ireland, claimed that upgrading every server in Ireland to the product would cut over two million tonnes of CO2 every year.

The Microsoft Windows Server 2008 was officially unveiled in Dublin today.
