The Financial Regulator's office has won a European Commission-sponsored award for the best campaign to promote consumer rights in the EU last year.

The Financial Regulator's office won the prize on the basis of its public awareness campaign to advertise the personal finance website itsyourmoney.ie.

The Irish entry beat entries from 26 other EU member states in a competition held as part of an initiative to mark International Consumer Day on March 15th, 2008.

The other entries covered a wide range of topics, including financial services, air passenger rights, internet fraud, misleading advertising, young consumers and food information.

Accepting the award in Brussels today, Consumer Director Mary O'Dea said "This is a really good day for consumers because everything we do is informed by what consumers want and need from us."
