Kate Knight was sentenced at Stafford Crown Court today for the attempted murder of Lee Knight, who also suffered brain damage and kidney failure.

The 28-year-old mother was remanded in custody last month after a jury at Stafford Crown Court found her guilty following a three-week trial.

Knight laced her husband's food with ethylene glycol bought from Tesco on their seventh wedding anniversary in April 2005.

The jury was told she stood to gain £130,000 from her husband's death after forging her partner's signature to take out two secret loans.

Mr Knight (37) survived despite spending 16 weeks in a coma.
