  • New immigration legislation published

    17:38 New legislation that aims to clarify and update the immigration policy of the State has been published today. Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform Brian Lenihan, said the "landmark" Immigration, Residents and Protection Bill 2008 would enable Ireland to manage non-EU immigration and complement laws governing the free movement of EU citizens. He said the legislation will benefit the State as well as those who may wish to settle here.
  • HSE denies decision made to cut north east services

    21:24 The Health Service Executive (HSE) has denied decisions have been taken on reducing life-saving health services in the northeast of the country.  Nurses reacted angrily to the reports of plans to cut elective surgery by 20-25 per cent at Our Lady's Hospital in Navan, the Louth County Hospital and the Cavan/Monaghan hospital group.
  • Court rules parents of autistic boy not entitled to costs

    18:11 The High Court has ruled that the parents of a young autistic boy are not entitled to orders for an estimated €5 million in court costs. The couple had undertaken an unsuccessful lengthy court action aimed at securing State funding for a particular form of education for their son.
