AA predicts petrol price rise on way
The price of petrol is set to rice in the coming weeks after a rise the global price of oil, AA Ireland said today.
The latest AA survey of fuel prices nationally shows that a litre of unleaded costs an average of 115.2 cent - down by 0.7 cent since September. Diesel has gone up by a full cent per litre and now costs an average of 110.4 cent.
However, AA public affairs manager Conor Faughnan said: "There is no doubt that price rises are coming as long as oil prices remain high.
"We have seen yet another surge in prices today with oil touching $88 per barrel. Were it not for the unprecedented strength of the euro against the dollar we would already be feeling the effects."
According AA figures the typical family car doing a typical family mileage will use 1,800 litres of fuel per year, or 150 litres per month. Petrol prices have risen by an average of 11.8 cents per litre since January, meaning the average motorist is paying an extra €17.70 per month on fuel.
"Unfortunately it looks as if we are in for an expensive winter for motorists," Mr Faughnan added.
