18:58 Taoiseach Bertie Ahern told a Fianna Fáil gathering today that the economy remains strong, but accepted it faces "adjustment pressures". At the same event, Minister for Finance Brian Cowen warned that day-to-day spending will have to stop increasing by double-digit figures. Mr Cowen said the Government had ambitious plans for investment but that these could only be implemented if a responsible fiscal policy was followed.
