Murder inquiry in frozen body case
Detectives in Galway today launched a murder investigation after the discovery of a body in a commercial freezer yesterday.
The body was frozen solid, delaying the post mortem examination.
Gardai have not yet been able to remove any items which might assist identification because of the body's frozen state.
At an early stage gardai were unable to establish the sex of the body but today they issued a description saying it was male probably aged between 30 and 40 and approximately 6 feet tall with fair skin.
It is also unclear how long the body was in the freezer.
Gardai are checking missing persons files but it si understood that so far the process has not produced any results.
The body was discovered by a member of staff of a fish shop in a freezer unit behind the premises in Henry Street at around 2.30 pm yesterday.
