  •  Drink-driving arrests up by a third in 2006

    18:42 The number of motorists arrested by gardaí for alleged drink-driving offences last year was up by a full 33 per cent on 2005, new figures show.  Some 17,788 arrests were made in suspected drink-driving cases compared to 13,369 in 2005, the Garda said. Some 318 alleged drink-driving incidents were recorded between Christmas Day and New Year's Eve. There was also a 22 per cent increase in the number of drivers allegedly caught speeding in 2006.
