Teen killed in Co Down crash

A teenager was killed today in a crash on a Co Down road that left four others injured.

The youth who died, believed to be around 16, was in a Peugeot that crashed on the Coast Road between Ballyhalbert and Portavogie just before 10 am.

Police said one of the others hurt was critically ill in hospital, while another two were in a serious condition.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, which brought the death toll on Northern Ireland's roads to 116 this year.

The crash happened just a day after young journalist Donna Ferguson  (24) was killed in a three-car pile-up on the Boa Island Road near Kesh, Co Fermanagh.

Meanwhile another five people were injured today when a lorry and a car collided near Ballymoney, Co Antrim.

The crash at Dervock forced the closure of the Knock and Greenhill Roads. One woman was taken to hospital while the rest were treated at the scene.
