Xerox to review operation in Dublin

Elaine Edwards

Xerox Ireland is to review its operation near Blanchardstown in Dublin, the company said today.

The office products group said the review was at its early stages and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2007.

Xerox employs a total of 1,717 people in Ireland, some 1,340 of those at Ballycoolin in Dublin. A spokeswoman for Xerox said it would be premature to comment on the conclusions of that review.

In a statement, Xerox said: "It is normal business practice for any company to evaluate, on a continuous basis, ways in which it can maximise efficiency and improve value to its customers.

"It is always our policy to communicate fully with our employees regarding changes that may affect them. This will very much be the case with this review, once the conclusions are known and any potential impact assessed.

"The scope of this process does not include activities in our Dundalk plant," the statement said.

Xerox was established in Ireland in 1962.

The company's chief executive, Anne Mulcahy, said in April last year that Xerox had "stabilised" and that she did not expect further job cuts in the near future, after several rounds of rationalisations in the past. Xerox would need to hire more expertise to support its colour strategy, she said.
