PÁDRAIG PEARSE'S COTTAGE The 1916 revolutionary Pádraig Pearse is said to have inspired the cult of the martyr in some nationalist/republican psyches. A Gaelic revivalist, Pearse was charismatic and fired the imagination of his contemporaries. Some of his plays and short stories were written in this cottage and though his poetry is not considered remarkable, it shows great singlemindedness. He was put to death by firing squad in 1916. |
