Jerry Seinfeld comes to Dublin’s O2 for one night only in May 2012

13th December 2011

American comedian Jerry Seinfeld performs at the O2 in Dublin for one night only on Sunday, May 13, 2012.

The New York native is best known for playing a fictional version of himself in his eponymous hit sitcom, which he co-created and co-wrote with Larry David.

After the show’s extraordinarily successful nine-year run, Seinfeld turned to a number of new projects. Among his many ventures, he penned a best-selling children’s book entitled Halloween, wrote, produced and starred in the animated film Bee Movie and became executive producer of real-life comedy The Marriage Ref. In recent years, one of the biggest names in comedy returns to his first love – stand-up.

Seinfeld has a knack for the observational. His jokes usually begin with a question, posed in a casual, conversational tone, and often open with something like, “Have you ever noticed . . . ?” or “Why is it . . .?” or “What’s with the . . . ?”

These questions always address some ordinary, everyday thing that has been so taken for granted that its innate absurdity has somehow been overlooked by the population at large. After calmly posing the question, Seinfeld launches into a rant and builds to the point of hysteria, while exaggerating the implications of whatever tiny, unnoticed detail he has pointed out. The audience is, more often than not, left thinking, “That’s so true!” – and massive laughs all around.

Considered by many to be one of the best comedians of our time, Jerry Seinfeld comes to Dublin in May 2012. Tickets go on sale Thursday, December 15th at 9.00am, priced at €65.00. To book, visit www.ticketmaster.ie.
