Best comedy venues in Dublin

By Kathleen Harris, 19th January 2012
Whether you’re a visitor to Dublin in search of that famous Irish wit, or a seasoned Dub looking for a night’s entertainment, the comedy club is a good option, and can be surprisingly inexpensive if you go easy on the drink. Dublin’s comedy scene ranges from big-name, mid-size venues that attract top international acts, to weekly comedy clubs hosted in the back of beyond in many a Dublin pub. Gigs in the former category can get pricey, and often must be booked well in advance, but they’re your best chance of catching your favourite A-list comedians. The comedy club – which often involves a tiny stage squeezed into a dark upstairs corner of a pub – is perfect for that last-minute night out, offering both emerging and established Irish acts at a price that won’t break the bank. They’re a great option for birthdays, stags/hens, work parties or whatever you might be celebrating.
