Garcia in sight of the lead
Castello Masters:Defending champion Sergio Garcia remained a shot behind leaders Martin Kaymer and Robert Allenby after the completion of the second round at the Castello Masters in Spain this morning. Garcia had three holes to play when play was called off because of fading light last night and, on the resumption bogeyed the short 16th, but birdied the next and parred the last.
It gave the tournament host - this is his home course - a three-under-par 68 and an 11-under aggregate of 131, while playing partner Jose Maria Olazabal's 67 put him joint fourth at halfway with Swede Michael Jonzon and Indian Shiv Kapur.
Jonzon and Kapur are both trying to save their European Tour cards. They lie 158th and 117th on the money list respectively, with only the top 115 retaining membership for next season.
Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie still had hopes of climbing into contention when he double-bogeyed the 16th and 17th. Even with a closing birdie he was left nine behind on three under after a 69.
The cut fell at one under, which meant Angel Cabrera's 20-year-old son Federico made his first Tour cheque, but Paul McGinley missed out on level par after a 70.
Darren Clarke and Gary Murphy also carded 70s but will be around for the weekend on five under and two under respectively.
Masters champion Cabrera had been disqualified on Thursday when he was delayed en route from the Grand Slam in Bermuda and just failed to make his tee-off time.
Added frustration came when play was called off for strong winds minutes later. If his playing partners had not teed off he would have been able to join them, but they were on the first green.
The third round was being played later today as the event made up for lost time.
