Kilmokea is a lovingly restored Georgian manor set in seven acres of heritage gardens on the banks of the River Barrow in Campile, County Wexford. The bedrooms in this former rectory have been lavishly decorated and offer the ultimate in relaxation.
Kilmokea offers award winning accommodation situated on the banks of the River Barrow in County Wexford.
The guest bedrooms, which have been lavishly decorated, include a four poster and a bateau lit. All have wonderful views over the formal walled garden in which planting began in 1947 with rare and tender species from around the world. In 1963 the woodland garden was created and with its host of winding paths it provides an exciting display of exotic plants, which are a delight to the keen amateur and the more serious horticulturist.
Breakfasts are served in the large conservatory overlooking the walled garden and dinners, which are complimented by ingredients from the organic vegetable garden, in the dining room. The new leisure area in a beautiful stone building offers an indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi, aromatherapy treatments and a gym area. An all weather tennis court and croquet lawn complete these facilities which are for the use of residents.
South west Wexford possesses a landscape, history, culture and character undeniably its own. Its uniqueness is due in no small part to some early visitors from across the seas, the Celts, Vikings and Normans who came, conquered and stayed. Indeed the coastline, which offers a beach a day for a fortnight, is one of the special attractions of this area. Pretty fishing villages, bird watching on the mudflats of Barrow River, deep sea angling, snorkelling and swimming are part of the area's maritime life. Rivers, valleys, estuaries and rolling hills have long provided south west Wexford with rich grazing land. There are 11 golf courses within an hours drive of Kilmokea, the closest of which is 10 minutes away, a beautiful par three course.
Kilmokea has won numerous awards for its attentive hospitality and fine dining. Kilmokea is also a member of Hidden Ireland and has been recommended by Alastair Sawday's special places to stay in Ireland, Karen Brown's Ireland Charming Inns and Itineraries, Georgina Campbell's guide to Ireland and The Hidden places of Ireland.
