Louis Mulcahy has been potting for over forty years. His workshop and its sister companies in weaving and lampshade decoration have grown from his and his wife Lisbeth’s original two-man operation to employ over thirty people.
Louis Mulcahy - Workshop - Open to Visitors - After years of customer's requests to be allowed see the work in progress or to try their hand at throwing a pot, Louis Mulcahy agreed to dedicate an area at the pottery to those visitors who wish to experience the craft for themselves. In this room a professional thrower can be seen going through the daily routine of throwing pots. An experienced potter will assist the visitor in making their own “masterpiece”, they can bring their raw pot home with them for a charge of €4 or they can have their pot fired, glazed and delivered to their home (anywhere in the World) for a charge of €19.90. The professional potter is also available to answer any questions that visitors may have about the processes involved in making our pottery. In addition to the throwing experience there is also an audio visual demonstrating the casting and jiggering processes which are used at the workshop. The techniques of glazing and decoration are also revealed. This gives visitors an interesting break on their Slea Head tour.
Full workshop tours can be arranged.
Here you can find the full range together with eccentricities, prototypes and other experimental pieces peculiar to the workshop. Louis Mulcahy Pottery mail to all countries and can give quotations for the cost of transporting pots of any size to any place in the world.
The café aims to serve the best of locally produced food, so why not savour a taste of West Kerry, on your stop at the workshop. The menu includes Dingle Organic Smoked Salmon, Dingle Peninsula Cheese platters, Smoked mackerel pate with local brown bread or seaweed bread, homemade soup, Paninis and a selection of cakes and scones baked in the café – all served on handmade pottery.
