The 2018 edition of New Music Dublin kicks into action with a celebratory Opening Concert on Thursday 1st March, which features two large scale orchestral pieces.

The first piece is Goliath by Deirdre Gribbin from Belfast. Originally commissioned by the BBC, Goliath is a composition on a massive scale, written for percussion and orchestra and featuring Toby Kearney as the solo percussionist who stars in the piece.

The second work on the night is James McMillan’s Credo, which sets the text of the Nicene Creed to music, alongside an orchestral arrangement, which the composer will conduct himself.

This is the first New Music Dublin under the direction of John Harris so he will be looking to make a splash with these two dramatic works for the opening gala performance.
