This lecture, Authenticity and the Theatre of Self, by Dr. Sinéad Hogan examines the ideas of authenticity and fakeness, and how relevant they are to how we represent ourselves online.

As a part of the program for IMMA’s new group exhibition, digital_self, the museum will host a series of talks which explore themes relevant to the exhibition.

This lecture, Authenticity and the Theatre of Self, by Dr. Sinéad Hogan examines the ideas of authenticity and fakeness, and how relevant they are to how we represent ourselves online. Given how much of our interaction with friends, peers, and colleagues is now mediated by social media, and the self-curation that entails, these ideas are particularly relevant.

As a co-director of the Art and Research Collaboration MA program at IADT, Hogan specialises in the interaction of art and philosophy. In particular, she has written about the phenomenology of nihilism, and Martin Heidegger’s writings on technology.
