The great Victorian estate of Wells House in the heart of County Wexford is waiting to be explored. Wells House has something special for all the family, from woodlands walks to archery, a café to beautiful landscaped garden so plan your visit now.

Wells House in County Wexford was built in the late 1600s by John Warren who owned more than 6,000 acres of land in the area. Redesigned by renowned English architect Daniel Robertson in the 1830s, Wells House is a stunning Victorian estate that’s recently been opened to the public, making it a great place for families to explore.

Roberston is best known for designing the garden terraces at Powerscourt in Wicklow and Johnstown Castle in Wexford. At Wells House, Robertson redesigned the old house into a large brick-faced building in the Tudor Gothic style, with an elaborate landscaping scheme. The terraced garden and woodland walk have recently been renovated and are now open to visitors.

In 1965 the estate was purchased by Gerhard Rosler, a German industrialist who moved to Wells House with his family. His son, Uli Rosler, is the current owner alongside his wife Sabine—they operate a working farm on the estate today.

Guided tours of Wells House take visitors around the ground floor to see the spectacular Versailles Room, the Lady Frances Room, the Daniel Robertson Room, the Library Room, and the Dining Room. Guests are encouraged to pick up books, toys and articles of interest and to ask questions throughout the tour.

Today the old stables house a craft and gift shop, where visitors can browse handmade products or take a workshop to learn a new skill. Mrs Stone’s Tea Rooms, near the rear gardens, serve homemade scones and hearty lunches. Wells House and Gardens remains a popular attraction for families, located between Gorey and Wexford Town.
