Thomas Davis was the leader of the Young Ireland movement, poet and co founder of The Nation with John Blake-Dillon and Charles Gavan Duffy. There are monuments to him in various places in Dublin including College Green, City Hall and Mount Jerome.
Poet, journalist, and cultural nationalist, Thomas Davis was born on 24 October 1814, in Mallow, County Cork. He was the son of a British army surgeon, who died before he was born and an Irish Protestant mother.
He lived on Baggot Street and died in 1845. He is buried in Mount Jerome. There are monuments to him at College Green, City Hall and Mount Jerome.
