Killarney is Ireland's best known tourist destination and probably the most written about and sung about place in the land. The town is colourful with craft shops, galleries, museums, cafes and restaurants. It also has a highly developed range of guided tours, including the traditional horse-drawn jaunting cars. There is also fishing on the lakes and rivers, several great golf courses, ancient heritage sites, touring the vast National Park which comprises 27,000 acres, rambling on the hills and there is good company and entertainment in the local pubs and bars.
You can also visit Muckross House, Gardens and Traditional Farms, a representation of the lifestyles and farming traditions of a rural community of the 1930s. Or take a day trip to the famous Gap of Dunloe taking in Ross Castle. Horse-riding is also very popular around the Killarney area and golf is huge in Kerry with 12 courses within easy distance.
