Shanid Castle is a tower castle dating back to the 13th century. It is located in Shanagolden, County Limerick and was one of the first Desmond Castles to be built in the area.
The ruins of Shanid Castle stand just a short distance from the small village of Shanagolden in County Limerick. Although only first mentioned in 1230 the castle is probably slightly earlier.
A motte 35 feet high surrounded by a ditch and an outer bank supports a multi-sided tower which is round inside.
