Scorch is a new work by Belfast playwright Stacey Gregg whose previous play, Shibboleth, was produced at the Abbey Theatre where it was a roaring success. Gregg is known for approaching complicated social issues head-on in her plays. In that regard, Scorch is no different.
Scorch takes the form of a monologue by a transgender teenager, Kes, who is at the centre of a love story and, eventually, a court case. It explores society’s norms about gender and sexuality, and how the human story in complicated situations can get lost behind the headlines in the media.
