The Rare Auld Times Irish Music Show blends stories, history, and song in an intimate setting. Located in the historic center of Dublin’s traditional music scene in Peadar Kearney's Pub—on the southwest edge of Temple Bar and catty-corner to Dublin Castle's entrance on Dame Street.
The Rare Auld Times Irish Music Show is perfect for the whole family and a truly unique way to experience Irish music in Dublin. Performed by some of the city’s top traditional Irish musicians and its most entertaining presenters, the show blends stories, history, and song in an intimate setting.
The show takes place in one of Dublin’s most beloved Irish Pubs, Peadar Kearney’s. The entire lower level of the pub has been converted into a family-friendly performance space. Set up cabaret-style, with chairs and benches clustered around small tables, you will feel as though you have been transported to a simpler--and more musical--place and time. When you enter, the friendly bartender will offer everyone their choice of an expertly poured pint or soft drink.
Settling into your seats, the lights dim and the next 2 ½ hours fly by in a whirl of music, laughter, and fun. The musicians famous for their skilled interpretations of traditional Irish music, have found the perfect venue to showcase their talents. They fill the cozy room with spirited renditions of the greatest Irish music you can imagine. The music is interspersed with entertaining stories and historical tales that only deepen your appreciation of the music.
The audience is expected to be an active participant in the show and the band teaches everyone a Gaelic song—the chorus of voices united in this ancient language has brought tears to many eyes. People find they feel a deep connection to this culture through the music and stories that have survived for millennia. Everyone is also given a chance to experiment with traditional Irish instruments; the tin whistle and bodhrán. This “hands on” opportunity is a unique way to enrich your understanding of this music and the skill required to perform it.
You’ll leave with a new appreciation for this timeless Irish tradition and a better understanding of the “real” Ireland. The room—which at the beginning of the show had been a room of full of strangers—has been brought together in a community of music in a way that is only possible in Ireland..
