Visitors to the Waterford and Suir Valley Heritage Railway in County Waterford can experience the beauty of the Suir Valley and panoramic views of the River Suir from a period railway carriage.

The magic of the railway's golden age has been brought to life in Kilmeadan, County Waterford. Tickets for the train are sold in a converted Irish Rail carriage, where refreshments are available. Once the train is boarded and the guard has checked passengers' tickets, the whistle blows and the guard's green flag waves, as the train's locomotive gets the journey under way.

This family friendly railway runs mostly along the picturesque banks of the River Suir offering views of the world famous Mount Congreve Gardens. This is an area rich in history and is only accessible by train. The restored Simplex locomotive pulls two partially open carriages travelling at 15 kilmetres per hour and accommodates up to 90 passengers. The journey time is approximately 50 minutes. This is a great fun experience for all ages. Children especially love the experience as they can relate to the smaller size engine and narrow gauge track.

Special events are held throughout the year, beginning with the Easter Bunnies visit. Summer Magic, Teddy Bears Picnics, Peppa Pig, Barney, Fireman Sam and Dora cartoon characters theme trips are held on various Sundays in the summer months while wintertime events include the Spooky Express and Santa Express.

A large car park provides ample parking for coachs and cars. The Suirway Bus in Waterford City travels to Kilmeadan and all facilities at the Waterford and Suir Valley Railway are wheelchair accessible. There is plenty to see and do nearby, as well as a host of accommodation options, a comprehensive list of which is outlined on the company's website.

Light refreshments are available at the station. Indoor and outdoor tables are available for picnics. A large car park provides ample parking for coachs and cars. All facilities are wheelchair accessible. On the web site you can watch a video of the train journey.
