Castle View is a secret hideaway set on a working beef farm, in the heart of Ireland, near the village of Donaghmore in County Laois. It enjoys beautiful views of the Slieve Bloom mountains.
The four star Castle View self catering house is named after the towns land of Castletown, in County Laois, in which it is located. Its name is also linked to the famous one walled castle which is clearly visible from the house. The property boasts two double rooms and two twin rooms. There is a well equipped kitchen come living area which features among other items a TV, DVD player, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher and electric cooker. There is oil fired central heating throughout the building and an open fireplace. There is an outside play room for kids if the weather is wet.
The area is steeped in history with the guesthouse itself almost 200 years old and the old Famine Workhouse Museum in the village of Donaghmore, which is only 1km from the property. The village of Donaghmore is also full of history with the old mill and river running slowly along. There are also several good 18 hole golf courses within a 30 minute drive and also some good fishing spots. There are two large supermarkets 4km from the house. There was a film made in the area in 1993 called 'All things Bright and Beautiful' written by Barry Devlin and starring Ciaran Fitzgerald, Gabriel Byrne, Gabrielle Reddy and Tom Wilkinson.
Castle View is only 4 kilometres from the main Dublin to Cork railway line and the station at Ballybrophy Junction. There is also a very good bus service from Limerick to Dublin from Borris-In-Ossory. There are a number of waymarked walks throughout Laois each of different grades and for all age groups. This property also provides a stop over for horse drawn caravans in the summer months.
