Kilkenny Musical Society presents its 40th annual production - Gilbert & Sullivan's masterpiece 'The Pirates of Penzance' with a 50 strong cast and 15 piece orchestra. Since 1973 Kilkenny Musical Society has performed an annual production each spring without fail for musical theatre lovers in Kilkenny and surrounding counties. 2013 marks the Society's 40th birthday and it has chosen Gilbert & Sullivan's swashbuckling masterpiece to mark the important milestone. The cast has been in rehearsal since before Christmas to ensure that the show will be an unforgettable spectacle on the Watergate stage in April. The production costs approx. €50,000 to stage and is likely to be a Box Office Sell Out. Previous productions have been described as West End standard and 'Pirates' will be no different! The director is David Heffernan who received the Association of Irish Musical Society Award for Best Director for 'Oliver' in 2010. Among the cast will be Olivia Smith and Kevin Reade who have also been nominated for awards in the past. With popular numbers such as 'Cat Like Thread', 'Pirate King', 'Modern Major General' and 'Policeman's Lot' this is a production not to be missed. Show begins at 8pm nightly.
