As The Gathering gains pace in 2013, Future Beauty? is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see everyday and extraordinary objects made by Irish and international artists in the historic setting of Kilkenny City Castle Yard. All exhibitors are linked by a connection to Ireland – through birth, training or place of residence. The collection is testament to the influence of worldwide travel in the exchange of ideas and the evolution of art and craft techniques.
Traditional craft making is a key part of Ireland’s cultural heritage. Recent years have seen a celebration of Irish craft, prompted by a renewed interest in natural materials and handmade objects for the household and wardrobe. This spring, the Crafts Council of Ireland presents Future Beauty? – a showcase of contemporary Irish craft work that combines traditional techniques with innovative design and exquisite craftsmanship. Visit the exhibition from 25th January to 13th March 2013 at the National Craft Gallery and experience first hand the work of world-class woodturners, basket weavers, silversmiths and glassblowers selected from twenty six award winning craft studios around Ireland.
