The Slí in Tralee is one of the longest in the country measuring 9.9km.
Tralee is the largest town in Munster and, indeed, the Slí in Tralee is one of the longest in the country measuring 9.9km. The walk starts in the heart of the town at the gates of St. John's Church. From this point proceed along Castle Street and The Mall. Enjoy the town improvements recently carried out as you proceed through the narrow Bridge Street and on to Staughton's Row. Passing the Dominican Church and the Brandon Hotel, continue to the roundabout and turn left onto Dan Spring Road. You are now passing the Aqua Dome, Ireland's largest indoor water facility. Continue along Dan Spring Road to the roundabout at Ballymullen and turn right at Ballymullen Post Office. You are now heading towards Killerisk. Turn left at the next junction (after Castlemorris House) onto the Killerisk Road and continue along this road to the next roundabout at County Buildings, the head offices of Kerry County Council. Turn left at this roundabout, you are now heading back towards the town passing Tralee General Hospital. Turn right at the Clash roundabout. You are now proceeding along Clash Road over the level crossing and passing the offices of the 'Kerryman'. As you proceed towards Ballybegan, you will pass the location of Ballybeggan Racecourse, the home of the Tralee Races. Turn left at the junction which signposts the Ballybegan Raceccourse and proceed along this road, a country road, which overlooks the town. Take time to enjoy the view of the Slíabh Mish Mountains.
Proceed now past the site of Tralees new ‘Institute of Technology’ to the junction of this road with the Oakpark Road and turn left. You are now heading back towards the town past the Meadowlands Hotel. Continue to the traffic lights located adjacent to the Railway Station. Continue on straight to Edward Street, past the Post Office. You have now arrived at your starting point. You can be proud that you have completed the 9.9kms.
