Inis Meáin Knitting Company on Inis Meáin Island, County Galway is a young company employing local skills to provide quality knitwear in luxury fibres. Stylish, comfortable and modern, Inis Meáin uses traditional techniques to create new styles.
Inis Meáin Knitting Company on Inis Meáin Island, County Galway creates knitted garments inspired by the island’s rich knitting traditions and reinterprets old stitches in new ways. Knitting was just one of a number of skills that islanders had to learn and to master, to create a way of living in a very inhospitable place.
The new styles are knitted in the finest yarns – wool, cashmere, baby Alpaca, linen, and silk sourced from the finest mills in Europe and South America. Subtle colours, inspired by land and sea, which reflect the landscape and seasons.
The Inis Meáin range is exported all over the world. All clothes bear the symbol of the upturned currach. The currach is the islanders’ fishing boat or canoe, made from tarred canvas stretched across a wooden frame. The distinctive logo is their guarantee that the item has been designed and made on the Aran Islands.
The factory showroom on Inis Meáin has an extensive range of garments available at special discount prices for visitors.
