Legendary traditional Irish music family The Rowsomes (Mary on Flute, Kevin on Uilleann pipes and Caitriona on Harp) from Dublin make their debut family appearance at the Steeple Sessions. Mary Rowsome is an accomplished flautist both traditional and classical, a talented composer and arranger and a member of the Dublin Orchestral Players. Mary was exposed to Irish traditional music from an early age and her love of classical flute led to her playing both traditional and classical music on the silver classical flute. She has played throughout the United Kingdom and Europe and appeared on Irish radio and TV and also plays tin whistle, low whistle and keyboards. Mary's brother Kevin is an Uilleann piper and is in demand as a performer and teacher at traditional festivals all over the World. His debut album 'The Rowsome Tradition', acknowledges five generations of Uilleann piping in his family. In 2006 he won the prestigious tune composition award "Cuisle Ceoil an Bhlascaoid" (the musical pulse of the Blasket Islands). Harper Caitriona Rowsome, the youngest of the family teaches Irish Harp in the DIT College of music and in Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann and also adjudicates Harp competitions. Caitriona recently published an extensive compilation of O' Carolan's works 'The Complete Carolan Songs & Airs'. This CD edition book includes 226 airs on 4 CDs played on a neo-Irish harp by Caitriona and gives a unique perspective to the music of the great Irish harper-composer, Turlough Carolan (1670-1738).
