Bay View Cottage is centrally located in the charming coastal village of Kilcrohane on the Sheepshead Peninsula in West Cork. It is within walking distance of the sea and the village’s amenities – shop, post office, pubs, wine bar, café and restaurants.
Bay View Cottage has a sea view, a small garden to the rear and off-street parking. Dogs are welcome (by prior arrangement). The property can sleep 5 persons and there is a double bedroom with sea view and en-suite, a twin room and a single room. There is a family bathroom upstairs and a guest WC downstairs.
The property has an open plan kitchen/dining area with patio doors to a small balcony that overlooks the garden and Dunmanus Bay. French doors lead from the dining area to the living room where there is an open fire. There is also a utility room with washer and dryer.
Kilcrohane is located in the heart of the renowned Sheepshead Way walking and hiking trail which offer walks for all abilities. There is also a cycling trail encircling the Peninsula. The village has a children’s playground with tennis court and a community field –all open to the public. The local pier is a good place to swim and there are several coves that are perfect for anglers.
During the peak summer months there is a farmer’s market in the village every Sunday morning and fresh produce can be purchased at the farm producer’s shop located near O’Donovan Motors. During July and August, there is a daily café at the Post Office/O’Mahonys (except Sundays) and a wine bar and restaurant are open from Wednesday to Saturday. The restaurants at the Bay View Inn and Bridge View House are open all year but prior reservations are a must. The village’s two pubs – the Bay View and Eileen’s are open year round. The Bay View has music every Saturday night and Eileen has music every Sunday evening and on Wednesday and Friday nights during the high season.
There are two art galleries near the village – The Alice West Centre and The White House. Both serve teas. There is also a tea shop/café at the end of the Peninsula that is open from Easter to October – Bernie’s Cupan Tae.
The nearest village to Kilcrohane is Ahakista. Check out Arundells Bar – good traditional fare and bicycle hire and be sure to pop into The Tin Pub. The village of Durrus is about 10 miles from Kilcrohane and has a good selection of restaurants and bars and Ryan’s mini-market has a good selection of food and you can find any- and everything in Wiseman’s. There are 2 gardens in Durrus worthy of a visit – Kilravock and Carraig Abhainn.
The nearest town is Bantry which has good restaurants, a cinema, 2 leisure centres (at the Maritime and West Lodge hotels), an 18 hole golf course, a market every Friday and a variety of shops, boutiques and supermarkets.
